I had a double inguinal hernia repaired 2 days ago by laparoscope and am experiencing a good deal of pain which I am managing with 2 pain killers 1 strong and the other panadol. the thing that concerns me is that my right testicle is really tender and swollen and I would like to know if this is normal and resolve in a few days?

Hi Rod. I had bilateral inigual HERNIA “open” repair with mesh. My scrotum and testicles were Huge !!! I mean 2 avacados huge. When my scrotal sac is tight, my penis looks like an olive sitting on top of a grapefruit. (and my penis is not small). Anyway, I am 32 days post op and my surgeon said that everyone heals differently (I am 63) and expect at least 3 months for the swelling to subside. “It is normal”, he said…”do not worry”. My pain was very tolerable after 7-10 days, although the weight of my testicles is uncomfortable. I still Ice the area (covered first-no bare skin). It greatly reduces the swelling, but it returns within 10-15 minutes. Hang in ther ! I would say that if you are experiencing high pain levels anywhere in that area or have a fever of over 101, have a doctor take a look. Good luck.

I had surgery on July 27 and my advice to reduce your scrotum swelling is to lay on your back and elevate your legs. Walk 1-2 miles a day and by 3rd week the swelling goes down.
